Preparation and planning to me are the keys to any successful presentation. In my workshops I talk about Sir Winston Churchill and his 1 hour of preparation for ever 1 minute of speaking; I quote Robert Schuller who said “Spectacular performance is always preceded by spectacular preparation”; and that other well know saying “Prior Preparation Prevents Pathetically Poor Performance” – also know as the 6 P’s of Preparation.
I also like to use the iceberg analogy and your actual presentation as seen by your audience is represented by the tip of the iceberg; that 20% that is visible above the water line. The remainder of the iceberg, 80% that sits below the water line unseen by the audience, is your preparation and planning.
