How to write a speech – where to begin?

Where to begin?

One of the most common questions that I get asked at my public speaking workshops is “How do I write a good speech”. My recommendation is, always start with the end. Write your conclusion and take home message first. This helps you to capture your purpose, the aim of the speech and helps you realise what you want to achieve from that particular speech. Then you can write your strong opening and choose which key points, statistics, anecdotes, and personal stories you are going to use that will take the audience on the journey to your purpose, your take home message, your call to action. Always start at the end and then everything else should fall into place.
